Moving to Las Vegas

Official first stops from the City of Las Vegas and NV Energy, then the local board.

Start with the city's own list, then look for housing and work on the board. This is not a tour guide and it does not guess rents.

The city page

The City of Las Vegas new residents page points new arrivals to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, to NV Energy for electric power, to Southwest Gas for natural gas, and to trash and recycling. It lists Las Vegas City Hall at 495 S. Main Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101, and the phone number (702) 229-6011.

Use those links on the city site. A listing is not the utility.

Power

NV Energy's This Is What We Do page says residential start, stop, and transfer requests go through its online Move Center, at least one week before you want the request completed. It says you will need a Social Security number, the address for the new service, and the date service should start. It also says the utility connects and disconnects on weekdays, excluding holidays.

Give that information to NV Energy, not to someone who messaged you about an apartment.

Housing and everything else

Read How to avoid rental scams before you send a deposit. The FTC's advice there is national. It still applies on the Strip and in the suburbs.

Open the Las Vegas board for housing, jobs, items for sale, and services. If you are selling a car you brought with you, read Selling a car privately and the Nevada DMV title page linked from it.

The blog does not charge for this guide. A listing you post later is a different step: post a listing.
